beautifying composition

Aveda's Beautifying Composition Oil is a multi-use oil that replenishes skin and seals in moisture. It is great to use any time of the year, but especially in the dry Winter months. Beautifying Composition can be used on hair, skin or your scalp to provide extra moisture. It contains nourishing jojoba oil and essences of rosemary and bergamot. Some of my favorite ways to use the Beautifying Composition are:
  • After a shower or bath-apply a few drops of Beautifying Composition to damp skin to seal in moisture.
  • To condition hair and scalp-massage onto dry scalp let sit for 1-5 minutes; then shampoo.
  • Add 10-15 drops to running bath water to condition dry skin.
  • For  dry ends add 1-2 drops in the palm of your hand and run throughout dry or damp hair.
  • Use for an aromatic scalp and body massage.
  • 1-2 drops on a cotton ball or swab to remove stubborn eye makeup.

Lauren Conrad Inspired Ballerina Bun

Ballerina inspired buns are very in style right now and I think a big part of that is because of Ms. Lauren Conrad, not only is she seen rocking a big fat bun every now and then but she's perfected the look as well. Which may look difficult to do, but really couldn't be more simple! This quick ballerina bun is the easiest, cutest, most complimented bun I've ever had in my hair. You can find me with a sock bun in at least twice a week, and it really couldn't be easier! Not only does this bun make you look like you have tons of hair, but it uses no pins and can stay in for days! Which I may know from personal experience.. Wear one for an every day look, for an evening look or even to the gym. Whatever you decide to do with a sock bun, I know you'll love it!

Start by creating the foundation of this bun, the sock. I picked a knee length sock (the color usually doesn't matter), snip the toe of your sock off and roll em' up into a little doughnut shape. This is your best friend, we'll hide this in the bun later.

Now place your hair into a smooth high pony tail, slide your sock around the pony tail and then push your hair evenly around the sock. The third step doesn't have to be precise, but try to distribute some hair to the front before you start rolling so you don't get any holes in your bun.

Next, slide the sock to the end of your hair and start rolling loose ends into the bun. Keep rolling and stuffing loose ends into the bun until you run out of hair, your bun should feel secure at this point.
You did it, you have a rockin' huge ballerina bun! You can use shine serum or hairspray to tame any fly aways.

dry remedy moisturizing treatment masque

Did you know that cooler and drier weather can really take a toll on your hair? Winter weather is harsh on hair, but it's nothing a little product can't fix. I'm talking about Aveda Dry Remedy Moisturizing Treatment Masque, this ultra rich and luxurious formula uses buriti oil, pomegranate and palm-derived conditioners to penetrate deep into the most dry and brittle hair. This amazing masque improves dry hair up to 63% and has a relaxing aroma including certified organic palmarosa, ylang ylang and rose geranium, plus a hint of vanilla. The Dry Remedy Masque is best used once a week on damp hair for 2-10 minutes, it is also safe for color treated hair. Using this hair masque regularly will dramatically improve the condition of your hair, especially in the dry winter months to come.

Rules of Color Melting

Just incase you have no idea what color melting is, you should probably read this post first. It explains the differences between color melting, ombre and puddling and goes into detail what each one is. Done reading? Alright, now that you have a superior knowledge of color melting I'll lay down the rules of the melt.
First of all, if you want to try color melting, do it! I have so many clients who come in with apprehensions about trying a melt because they think it's not trendy or that it's too trendy or whatever. Guess what? Who cares, melts are beautiful and low maintenance which makes them the perfect option for so many people. I personally don't think color melts are going out of style any time soon, they're the new highlights.

Second, bring pictures! Color melting is such a unique technique and there are so many different variations of color melting that you'll definitely want to have a visual to show your stylist. It can be hard to find pictures of color melting in near by magazines at the salon so pull out your smart phone and download the Pinterest app so you can show your stylist an inspiration picture, this will help so much.

Third, know that usually color melts are a process and not "easy" to do. You really have to be artistic to paint a good melt and this sometimes involves layering color and toning out tons of unwanted shades. Know that a good stylist will take time to do a melt and it won't be cheap. However after your first initial melt it will get much easier to do.

hair glaze

daniela came in for a cut and hair glaze (gloss) which adds luster, silkiness, and shine to hair, that has been lost through styling and environmental damage.
before: after:
we brought up her layers, added some much needed texture and added a swoop bang.
in addition the glaze added shine and helped even out years of box color and at home bleach jobs.
daniela was so happy with the results and loved the idea of not having to commit to a color when choosing to get a glaze instead.
call today and mention this post to get 10% off of your next haircut + glaze combo!
