Glitter Ombre Nail Tutorial

I did these ombre glitter nails last week for my birthday, they were easy to do but looked really fancy!

The products I used are:
-Multi Colored Fine Glitter
1. Start with a top coat, I used Seche Base Ridge Filler as I have a lot of ridges in my nails.
2. Paint your base coat. Most polishes need 2 coats, but this awesome one from Ulta only needs one. If you do two coats paint the first one and let dry completely before painting the second, if not paint each nail one at a time like I did.
3. Sprinkle your glitter carefully and slowly onto nails while they're still tacky (let them dry for 30 seconds or so), add more glitter until you get your desired look. Do each nail one at a time until you're done.
4. Let nail polish dry completely before brushing off excess glitter and applying a top coat. I totally thought the glitter would get into my bottle of top coat and ruin it, but it didn't!

Enjoy.

Rules of Color Melting

Just incase you have no idea what color melting is, you should probably read this post first. It explains the differences between color melting, ombre and puddling and goes into detail what each one is. Done reading? Alright, now that you have a superior knowledge of color melting I'll lay down the rules of the melt.
First of all, if you want to try color melting, do it! I have so many clients who come in with apprehensions about trying a melt because they think it's not trendy or that it's too trendy or whatever. Guess what? Who cares, melts are beautiful and low maintenance which makes them the perfect option for so many people. I personally don't think color melts are going out of style any time soon, they're the new highlights.

Second, bring pictures! Color melting is such a unique technique and there are so many different variations of color melting that you'll definitely want to have a visual to show your stylist. It can be hard to find pictures of color melting in near by magazines at the salon so pull out your smart phone and download the Pinterest app so you can show your stylist an inspiration picture, this will help so much.

Third, know that usually color melts are a process and not "easy" to do. You really have to be artistic to paint a good melt and this sometimes involves layering color and toning out tons of unwanted shades. Know that a good stylist will take time to do a melt and it won't be cheap. However after your first initial melt it will get much easier to do.

melting, ombre, puddling.. what's the difference?!

i know i went over melting a little in this post, but i still seem to get quiet a few questions about it since it's a pretty popular trend right now and so different from the regular highlights and lowlights.
and for those clients who do their research they seem to have questions on the differences between the melting technique, ombre and puddling. they're all very similar, but i'll go over the differences in this post.
first of all, if you've never heard of any of these techniques i'll give a run down (:
the three things all these techniques have in common are darker roots and lighter ends of the hair, this can be as subtle or as drastic as you like and really leaves a lot of room to be creative!

1. melting: a technique that is used to blend or "melt" different colors together to create a smooth transition of color. there shouldn't be a visible horizontal line of color in the hair.
examples:

2. ombre: a deliberate graduation of colour from the roots (darkest) to ends (lightest). this technique may have a more visible lin
e from the darker to lighter color.
examples:

3. puddling: this technique has the same lighter ends and darker roots, however it uses and overlay of the dark color on top and reflective colors to blend the two hence the name "puddling".
examples:

come in today to get the latest trend, wether it be ombre, melting or puddling!
